Stampede 2008
March 14-16, 2008
Photos shown with ORANGE borders are by ACB Member David Moerman
He has set up a site where you can order prints from the full size images of these shots and about 1600 others he took HERE.
Steve Sampson of the Early Bronco Registry put his Stampede 2008 photos on the web HERE (I didn't copy them here, so check them out on his site).
Danny Bogner put up an online photo gallery of Stampede 2008 pics here.
Neil Grant contributed the photos with DARK BLUE borders further down the page.
Casey Nicholas contributed the photos with BLACK borders further down the page.
Ralph Schorbach contributed the photos with ROSE borders further down the page.
This year was a real first for the Stampede, in that the campsite and headquarters were located in a small Arizona town, right off Interstate 17, rather than in the middle of nowhere as it always has been in the past.
We used pretty much the same trails we ran in 2005, but started out from Rock Springs each time instead of a patch of desert out on Table Mesa Road.
This time it didn't rain. It was sunny during the day on both Friday and Saturday. Although it got cold and windy in time for the dinner and raffle on Saturday night.
The Rock Springs Cafe even provided a bar and live band both Friday and Saturday night at a pavillion next to our camp.
It was a nice idea, but they didn't get many takers from our group.
They didn't realize Bronco folks mostly hang around each other's camps at night, debating the merits of different upgrades.
I led my first Trail Run ever on Saturday morning.
It was the Moore's Gulch Trail from Table Mesa Road to Black Canyon City.
I like this little trail because it's easy to find and follow, but during much of it you seem to be far out in the wilderness, even though you are a few hundred yards from the freeway, at most.
It seemed to be taking a long time, what with 20 trucks in the column, a few people getting lost, a few breakdowns, and one Jeep that turned out not to have any front drive shaft when we got to the 4 Wheel Drive required parts -- but we actually ran the trail in about 3 hours.
I didn't take any photos of the run I led, but Neil Grant did, so see his (with the Dark BLUE Borders).
Many here are from the same trail led by Todd Zuercher on Friday in the opposite direction.
I was the tail gunner on that run and shot some photos, while David Moerman was up in the middle somewhere.
