Scottsdale Pavillions Car Show

This is an informal car show for cars, trucks, and motorcycles of all kinds that takes place every Saturday in the parking lot adjacent to a McDonalds in North Scottsdale. For event web site click HERE. It isn't always possible to park the Broncos together in one place until later in the afternoon when some people have left, so we usually make do with whatever spaces we can find and congregate around whatever Broncos are in the best places.

Time:

Afternoon, some people stay until late in the evening, others only come for a brief visit.

June 20th (Sat.)
Smiley Rock Run

Description:

Mingus Mountain area northeast of Prescott.

We haven't any runs on the calendar for many months other than the Stampede so here's your chance to get out on a real, genuine, old-fashioned Arizona Classic Bronco run! June is a warm month but it's nice up in the mountains and that's where this trail is located. We'll journey north on I-17 and make our way to the town of Chino Valley, north of Prescott, before heading east and hitting the trail after about 10 miles of dirt road. The trail winds through chapparal, scrub oaks, and finally pine trees at the top as it crests out near Potato Patch campground at an elevation of approx. 7000 ft. There is a short section of the trail that crawls through a rocky streambed just to keep everyone on their toes. Plan a warm return to Phoenix following the trip.

Vehicle requirements: Please make sure your vehicle is in top running condition before attending. We'll have approximately 2 hrs. of pavement travel before/after the trail run. For the run itself, I'd recommend at least a 2.5" lift, 33" tires, and a rear locker or limited slip. We did this trip in April with a Bronco with 31" tires and he bashed his rocker panel. Overall trail rating of a 2.5 with the creek section being a 3.5. Bring a lunch and dress appropriately for the weather.

Also, ACB club member David Pelletier, who lives in Cottonwood, called Todd and said he would be willing to give a tour of the giant cement plant in Clarkdale following the run to anyone that's interested.

The club did this run in February 2002 and ran into some snow along the way. We won't have that problem this time!

There's a trip report on that ACB Feb 2002 trip here:

http://azbronco.org/a202trip.htm

A link to Todd's April trip with mostly non-Broncos is here:

2.5, with a short section rated 3.5
